Bass Lessons

The temperature is already in the mid 80’s on this July morning and the dragon flies are buzzing and spinning low over the pond. So low in fact, that it’s very possible many of them will end up as bait for the largemouth bass that live in the pond. Often, the bass can be seen as they breach the water’s surface to snag this tempting treat. What, you might wonder makes this a problem? You see, the bass, whose eye is on the prize….the dragonfly, is mighty susceptible to the shiny lures used by the bass fisherman as well. Old largemouth doesn’t distinguish the difference until he’s snagged!
How often do we get snagged? Is it easy to tell the difference in those things that are right, and the ones that “seem” right? There are several scriptures we can look at on this, Proverbs 14:12 says, “there is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death”. Proverbs 16:2: “All the ways of man are clean in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth the spirits.” Also take a look at Proverbs 12:15 and 30:12 for additional study.
How do we keep from getting snagged by temptation or that thing that seems right? We must stay in the Word, walking with Christ daily and allowing Him control of our lives. The Psalmist says in chapter 8 verse 14 after speaking in previous verses about wisdom,” Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.” From this, I see God saying to us, seek Him and we will find good counsel, wisdom, and strength. He also tells us that He is understanding. In a few words, He is our all in all!
A fine closing to this is found in Proverbs 2:5-6 and says simply, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths. “
Won’t you trust Him today and allow Him to direct your ways?

The last scripture should be Proverbs 3:5-6. Sorry about the typo!
Very good devotion. Thank you
