Balancing Priorities

Squirrels can be such comical creatures. I have seen them running around the big pine trees chasing one another, other times I have caught them hanging on one of my bird feeders robbing it of as much birdseed as they could. The squirrel of today’s lesson however was simply sitting atop a post, a balancing act certainly.
I know about balancing acts, I perform one every day as I am sure you do too. We have many things to juggle in life; work, family, church. Often times in that very order. What does God’s word have to say about balancing our priorities? Take a look at Matthew 6:33, where we find “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Does this mean that we will get everything we could possible desire? No, but we will have what we need and God’s blessing on our lives.
Deuteronomy 6:5 says, “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.” If we put all this effort into loving God, it has to be our first priority. Moses goes on in the following verses to tell the children of Israel how they should teach their children the scriptures and bind them upon their bodies so as to have access to the law of God constantly. Without studying God’s word as we should we will not love Him with all our heart, soul and might.
What are some promises of putting God first? Philippians 4:19 tells us, “But my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” And in 2 Peter 1:4, “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” And from Psalm 84:11, “For the Lord God is a sun and a shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.”
Let’s look at these three scriptures; first, He will supply all our needs by his riches in glory. God’s riches know no bounds and notice He says ALL our needs, not some of them. Secondly, we share the divine nature, which promises at the end of our lives we will take on immortality and live forever with the Father and Son. Lastly, He is a sun and shield; we cannot live without sun, so He is life for us and as a shield He is our protector. The end of the verse reassures the Christian that he will hold back no good thing from them.
Mighty promises from a mighty God! Rethink your priorities and reorder them if necessary. Don’t miss out on His promises for you!

Very good devotion Lucy! Love the application!
