Are You a Part of the Family?

As I was sitting in church, the pastor made a comment about how important family is in our daily lives. As you may already know from a previous devotion, my husband and I are transplants to the area that we now call home. Neither of us have blood relatives here. What struck me in that moment, as I looked around, I could count over 25 people, that if I needed them, would stop what they were doing and come to my rescue. No doubt, no hesitancy at all. Duhhh! They ARE FAMILY! We worship together. We pray together. We sing together. We share meals together. We play together. We serve others together. As Christians that is exactly what we are called to do. If you are reading this, you are my family, too.
We have been in other churches, where thankfully, we were accepted as family. If you are in a church and you don’t feel like you are surrounded by family, you need to ask why. Ask yourself, “Do I hear God’s word preached and taught? Do I participate in church activities? Do I go to church on a regular basis? Am I part of a Sunday School group? Do I fellowship with others in the church? Have I put forth effort to get to know any other members? Have any other members gone out of their way to make me feel welcome?” These questions are not intended to accuse or reprimand but to help us recognize what families do. Or, you may be like us and not have blood family close by and are in search of one. The same thing applies. Have you made the effort? Have you made the need known? If you BELIEVE … You are a part of THE FAMILY OF GOD! And, by that fact alone, you are a part of the Christian family you choose to put around you. I am so very, very grateful to be a part of this Family of God.
The Family of God Hymn – by Bill and Gloria Gaither – Read the story behind the song at the link below. It is very interesting how it came to be.
Chorus - I’m so glad I’m a part of the family of God- I’ve been washed in the fountain, cleansed by His blood! Joint heirs with Jesus as we travel this sod, For I’m part of the family, the family of God.
(Vs.2) You will notice we say “brother and sister” ’round here- It’s because we’re a family and these folks are so near; When one has a heartache we all share the tears, And rejoice in each victory In this family so dear. Chorus
(Vs. 3) From the door of an orphanage to the house of the King- No longer an outcast, a new song I sing; From rags unto riches, from the weak to the strong, I’m not worthy to be here, But, praise God, I belong! Chorus

Well said Dale. I couldn’t agree more. Well said Sara. Thank you.
Great devotion, I am a transplant Christian also. It just means your family gets bigger all the time, especially if you are doing your job for our Lord & Savior by witnessing to those lost souls drifting through life. They need to be adopted into God’s great big family. Families live, work, worry, help, guide, and pray for each other, plus fellowship together. My Gideon family happens to reaches around God’s world. My military family reaches across our country and again God’s world.I am fortunate to have many church families to lean on and pray with and for them. Thank you Lord for this church family and letting me to be a part of it. Amen.
Love that song! Pat
Wonderful devotion Sara!
