Are We Under Attack?

“The thief enters only to steal, kill and destroy.”  John 10:10(a) (CEB)

In the last several weeks we have had a few church members that have been sick, injured or have had surgery.  Actually, more at one time than I can recall.  I was stating this fact to my hairdresser a week or so ago, to which she responded that her church was experiencing the same thing!  Her next statement really made me think. She said, “I really think we are under a spiritual attack.”  What insight!  I had not even thought of that, but now it was making sense.

My belief is that if you are a child of God then Satan, that thief, deceiver and destroyer, cannot “have” you but he can sure make it tough for you or me to be effective for the Kingdom.   If we are sick or infirm, we are limited in our ability to work for Jesus.

The devil must be feeling threatened to have so many of our brothers and sisters on the bench right now!  We must utilize and put on the armour of God each and every day.

I don’t know if she is right about the spiritual attack theory, but it sure sounds reasonable to me.  In light of that I felt it would be good to share some scripture references to help prepare for the battle ahead.

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

James 4:7, NIV

For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.” Deuteronomy 20:4, NIV

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitude of the heart.”

Hebrews 4:12, NIV

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God,

so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”

Ephesians 6:10-11

One last reminder is this:  The wonderful news is that we do have the power, the authority in Christ, to fight back against the dreadful attacks from the enemy. www.inspirewithin.org

Wow Lucy! Just wow! If a church is lukewarm then the Devil is not worried about you. It’s hard to think of us as being under attack but that is how Satan works. Thanks for the insight and reminder to stand guard.

Well said, we are surely under attack from Satan and the world around us. Every day someone is trying to poke a hole in our Lord’s commandments, stand firm with God, Amen Pray, Pray, Pray.
