Are We There Yet?

Every parent on the planet that ever took their young children on a road trip has heard the words, “Are we there yet?”, at least a thousand times. Sometimes you get to the point that you just want to scream, NO! But, we have to remember that young children do not possess the concept of time or distance.

With all of the craziness going on in our world, we as Christians, can become worn down and our patience is running low, and we quietly pray, “Come Lord Jesus, come.” This is our way of screaming, “Are we there yet?” We, as adult Christians are just like the kids. We have no concept of God’s time.

No, I’m not in a huge hurry for Jesus to come but I am in a hurry for ALL of my family to be saved. I want to see my grandbabies saved. I want to see my friends who are lost like-a-ball-in-high-weeds, saved. I’m in a hurry for common sense to return. I’m in a hurry for people to wake up and know that tomorrow may be the day and that they need Jesus.

My mom and I get into these deep discussions on the condition of our country and our churches and our government. I always, always fall back to the knowledge that God already knows what is going on. Psalm 139:4,” Even before there is a word on my tongue, behold O Lord, You know it all”. He already knows what will happen next. And He already knows how it ends. Even we know how it will end, in a blaze of Glory! We just don’t know when. Mark 13:32 says, “But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the father.” I think back to Sodom and Gomorrah and am so thankful that we aren’t quite there, yet, at least not in this country. But it won’t take long for us to reach the same level of gross immorality and sinfulness. I pray Jesus returns before we get to that point. Matthew 24:42 reminds us, “Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.” Read Genesis 18 & 19 to get a better picture of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Lord, are we there yet?

After hearing what our president said at a pride celebration at the White House this week, and seeing the behavior of the crowd gathered there, I’m not sure we aren’t “there”but, as you said, if not, we’re pretty close. That’s for sure. How dare one say what has become the now somewhat trite expression, “God bless America”? The closing statement/prayer should be “God forgive America” or “God have mercy on America”!
