Are We Prepared?

“He will go forth before the Lord, equipped with the spirit and power of Elijah. He will turn the hearts of fathers’ back to their children, and he will turn the disobedient to righteous patterns of thinking. He will make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” Luke 1:17

This verse comes from the passage where the angel of the LORD appears to Zechariah concerning the birth of John. The last sentence is what struck me as I read this recently. It set me to thinking….how can we be people prepared for the Lord?

We each have a story to tell, the story of how we were saved. Telling others what Jesus did for each one of us that drew us to Him and how He is still doing for us each and every day is one thing we need to be prepared for.

In light of our salvation, we should be living our story accordingly. Walking the walk so to speak. We must be prepared to walk in such a way as to be a witness to others.

Finally, we should be prepared for the end of our story. Being prepared takes much preparation! When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we spend our remaining time preparing to meet Him face to face. This preparation involves believing, witnessing, staying in the Word and praying. Let me even give a disclosure here, this may not include everything!

When we who are a prepared people share our story and live our lives for Christ we help to prepare others as well. We must be prepared before we can be preparers!

In closing, the verse from the hymn “Sanctuary” can be our prayer today:

Lord prepare me to be a sanctuary Pure and Holy, tried and true With thanksgiving I'll be a living Sanctuary for you
