And the Angels Sang

“And the morning stars sang in unison and all the divine beings shouted?” Job 38:7 (CEB)

Today’s devotion is a story I am relating to you from a spiritual event experienced by my cousin, Joyce recently. I want to preface the retelling of her story with a small bit of back story. Joyce’s husband of nearly 60 years stepped into heaven nearly one year ago. He had been in declining health for several years prior to his passing. She loves the Lord and trusts in Him totally, but as any of us would, she has been grieving his death. About 2 months ago, she had to make the hard decision to put their 16 year old pup, Maggie, to sleep. Then came new grief. She really needed a touch from the Master’s Hand.

Shortly after Maggie, Joyce was out walking in her back yard and as she approached a large tree in the center of the yard, she told me she heard the most beautiful music. She looked around to see if any of the neighbors were outside playing music, she checked for any traffic on her road that could be passing by with the radio turned up, she even looked up for an airplane! She saw no one anywhere in the immediate area. The music continued and she looked up into the heavens and declared, “Oh God!” She knew it could only be from Him. She could distinguish the different instruments, horns, harps and cymbals clearly as she stood rooted to the spot. She then walked around the tree and as she did the music faded a bit, but upon returning to the original spot it was just as loud as before! As she reached in her pocket for her phone to try and get this concert recorded, the music stopped as suddenly as it had begun.

As Joyce was telling me about this divine encounter, she said, “God knew I needed to hear from Him.” We are convinced that this angelic presentation was for her ears only. She did ask a couple of close neighbors if they had heard anything and of course, their answer was no. Joyce was tuned in so to speak. Revelation 13:9 tells us, “Whoever has ears must listen.” She was listening for that still, small voice; the voice in the thin silence – and she heard!

God speaks in many different ways, and He is the master musician! We may not all be blessed to hear an angelic concert, but we ALL have ears – we must be listening!
