A Straight Line

Years ago, when I was a little girl, I learned that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. If you learn to read maps well, you will see why this is so. It’s also where the phrase “as the crow flies” comes from. Meaning if you look at something from the air, suddenly two known points don’t seem so far apart but, on the ground, you may have to cross a river, climb a hill, trudge through the mud, or go around some rocks to reach your point. Not such a straight line anymore. But you can still arrive at your destination by sticking to the correct path.

We often refer to the path to Heaven as the straight and narrow. Oh, but were it as easy as that. We are so easily led astray. Matthew 7:13-14 says, “Enter by the narrow gate. For the and gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.” We always try to find the easiest way but it is not always the best way. The straight-way is not the shortest way but God’s way is. The narrow-way means you need to stick to a strict path that follows God’s commands and you don’t waver from that path. Now that is in a perfect world in which we do not live. We are going to waver! Shucks, we will probably fall and roll so far from the path it may takes months or years to get back to where we were. However, if we are grounded in God’s word, and have faith in Him, he will provide a path that will lead back to Him. We just have to want to find it. His forgiveness and mercy will be waiting as soon as you repent and get back on track. Find your straight line and stay on track. God will get you where you need to be.

I pray Lord, that we all stay on the straight and narrow and that God will always be our Guide.. Amen

Thank you for sharing this devotion.. I pray for the straight and narrow road every morning to follow his path each day where he sends me. Watch over your shoulder the Devil is trying hard to detour your pathway. Amen
