A Door to Heaven

“After this I looked, and behold, a door was opened in heaven:” Rev. 4:1(a)
I love watching the sky, clouds during the day and into the evening. I especially enjoy the colors of sunset…I am rarely up to see sunrise! Sometimes I am sure heaven is going to burst forth with all the glory of God because the colors are so brilliant and awe-inspiring. This was the case a few nights ago. I was on my home and as I topped the crest of the hill the view in front of me was glorious! I stopped the car, (taking care to note there was no one behind me of course) and snapped a few photos. All I could think of was this verse from Revelation. It indeed, looked as if a door had been opened allowing a look into heaven.
I don’t know that I can do the scene justice, but I will make an attempt. Even my picture doesn’t quite capture the essence of this most beautiful sky show. The night sky was dusky blue except in the center of my line of sight was an open spot. Glowing as if it had a sun on the inside of the opening the rays even radiated outward all the way around. I wondered if John saw a similar sight as he was caught up into the heavens in this passage.
As you read on to verse three the scripture mentions that to look upon, He who sat on the throne was like looking at jasper and sardine stones. As I know almost nothing about gems I turned to my Bible dictionary. Jasper is a greenish with sometimes a yellow to gold coloring. A sardine stone is described as reddish and translucent. Both are chalcedony which is a form of quartz.
If you are reading this devotion on our church page I have attached the photo. Look closely at the outer rim of the circular opening. I see a slightly reddish glow as well as some golden highlights. Often times I believe the Lord shows us himself in world of nature. And why not?? He created it!
I feel that I was given a God wink, or a bit of the Lord’s favor in the sky at that moment. My friend Sara loves clouds and my friend Deann loves looking at the moon. If you are open to it, you may see God in the smallest thing.
Be watchful and expectant for the Lord to show you something too! Make this simple prayer yours today:
“Lord, open my eyes to the wonder of who you really are. Open my eyes to see you more clearly in every aspect of the nature that surrounds me.”
In the name of Jesus,
Amen

Lucy, definitely sisters in spirit! Scripture tells us the we can se the glory of God all around us. This has truly been a season of beautiful skies.
