A Dirty Little Speck

My friend Deann A. told this story during one of her children’s sermons and it was so, so powerful. Thank you Deann for letting me share your story.

She told about getting a bit of chocolate on a pair of her white shorts. She used stain remover but when she finished laundering the shorts, there was still a tiny speck of brown. She was ready to toss the shorts in the trash because her eye kept going to that tiny, brown speck. Read this again. She was ready to toss those shorts because of one tiny speck of brown. She said all of a sudden it hit her. What if God were like that with us? What if, when he looked at us all he saw was a speck of dirty, brown sin? How would we like being tossed away for one tiny speck of sin? What is astonishing is that most of us have much bigger stains of sin. Some so big we would never want anyone to know. We are so covered in bits of sin that it might be hard to find a clean spot among the specks and splotches.

I’m so thankful that God provided the perfect stain remover. It is 100% effective and guaranteed to remove all stains. It’s called being “Washed in the Blood”. You may ask, “How can blood remove stains?” It’s through the sacrifice of His only Son on a cross. Jesus gave up his life so that we could all be washed as white as snow. Not a speck of sin left to be seen. Psalm 103:12 tells us His promise. All we have to do is ask for forgiveness, accept God’s love, begin building a relationship with Him, and try to sin no more.

1 John 1:7 - But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

Isaiah 1:18 - Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.

Psalm 103:12 - As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
