A Beautiful Mystery

As I rounded the bend in the driveway, my view was of the pond, shrouded in gray. Clouds like gray silk floated above and a gray mist was rising from the water. Even in these somber colors the pond was a thing of beauty and mystery. Tomorrow the scene will be changed, possibly as bright as today’s grayness has been.

I love mysteries, and God has provided a number of them in His Word. The one I want to focus on here is the mystery Paul speaks of in I Corinthians 15:51, “Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed.” Of those that are in Christ, all will not die! Look on to verse 52, “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” Again, a thing of both beauty and mystery.

Such a change is hard to imagine but look at Philippians 3:20-21 as it speaks also of the change of a believer, “For our citizenship is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto His glorious body, according to the working whereby He is able even to subdue all things unto Himself.”

Not only does the heart and life of a Christian change once we are saved, but Christ, in the twinkling of an eye, a moment, shall change the bodies of those still living at the time of His second coming to a glorious body! That takes my breath away! This is what we call the Rapture; when the dead in Christ shall rise, and those that remain will be caught up to meet Him in the sky. This truth comes from I Thessalonians 4:16-18.

A mystery certainly, but in faith we believe we shall be changed.

Are you certain of your standing with Christ? If you desire the certainty of this glorious change and forever abiding with the Father and the Son and Holy Spirit, you only need to believe on Him, Jesus, the Son of God. John 3:16 is the place to go in the Bible to read this for yourself. And remember, “whosoever” is You!
